Australia on a plate – Restaurant Australia

This week in Cairns in Queensland’s tropical north, Tourism Australia has showcased the very best of Australia’s produce and wine to over 1,800 tourism operators, international buyers and media under the banner ‘Restaurant Australia’.

‘Restaurant Australia’ was launched in Sydney last week with some of the country’s finest chefs including Neil Perry, Peter Gilmore and Penfolds’ Peter Gago. The campaign features a TVC with special food and wine ‘chapters’ filmed in all eight of Australia’s states and territories

Tourism Australia Managing Director, John O’Sullivan, said “We’ve made sure that this year’s ATE, hosted here in Cairns for the very first time, has a strong food and wine flavour, including the showcase opportunities at the welcome and farewell gala dinners and through the experiences included as part of the event familiarisation program.”

In fact, at every opportunity delicious produce, spectacular wines and creative cuisine have been served to the delegates, operators and 70 of the world’s leading travel and tourism journalists. ‘Restaurant Australia’ was launched in Sydney last week with some of the country’s finest chefs including Neil Perry, Peter Gilmore and Penfolds’ Peter Gago. Mr O’Sullivan said the campaign aimed to tap in to the growing demand globally for food and wine as part of the travel experience, and was based on the idea of Australia being the world’s greatest restaurant experience, ‘Restaurant Australia.’In November 80 of the world’s top food and wine influencers, including food media, food critics and world renowned chefs, will be invited to Australia to take part in a series of events and tours covering the best of every state and territory. Then Tourism Australia will ‘Invite the World to Dinner’ – at an event hosted by Tourism Tasmania at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart on 14 November 2014.
