Next Hotel Brisbane is different. Very different. Different from most business hotels that also cater to those getting away for a little R and R. The world’s first Next Hotel is designed to make it all a little easier from check-in to checkout. ‘Designed to make your time count’ is the mantra, so we decided to put the hotel through its paces.
Singapore- based Silverneedle Hospitality redeveloped the tired Lennons Hotel site in the centre of the River City hurtling it into the 21st century. Next has more technology than you can poke an usb stick at. Download the Next App and check in. Now your smartphone is also your room key. Every room also comes with a Samsung Galaxy S4 for complimentary use both inside and outside the hotel. Calls made to your room are automatically routed to the S4 – a first for Australia.
Hungry? You can order room service via the S4 and use it as a personal hotspot for your devices outside the hotel. You can turn the lights on, operate the TV and get the room temperature just right – even when you’re outside the room.
If your room’s not available on arrival, you can work in the 24 hour Club Lounge, take a swim, freshen up in a Shower Pod, or work-out.
And if you need a little shut-eye, the Arthur C. Clarke inspired Sleep Pods are perfect for a power nap before your first meeting of the day.
But, here at TML, we’re not easily impressed. We’re impressed when a hotel gets the little things right. Next seems to have the first hurdle so many properties stumble at: free unlimited Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The dreaded mini-bar has also had a much overdue makeover. Next Hotel says ‘we trust you’ and they mean it. You can choose 4 free items every day from the mini-bar. Yes, free!
Working in the Club Lounge or your room and feeling like a little cheese or something to sustain you till dinner? There’s an honour system for the Pantry in the Guest Lounge with delicious snacks – just swipe your phone or room key.
When it comes to something more substantial Lennons Restaurant & Bar offers bistro favourites in a sleek dining space that overlooks the bustle of Queen St Mall. It is not just a hotel restaurant, but a dining destination in its own name.
Chef Todd Adams’ menu details the provenance of delicious steaks cooked on the Parilla. There’s also fish, chicken and more from the wood-fired oven. Desserts are not a mere afterthought, with something for everyone. You can read more here in our review here: http://thismagnificentlife.com/category/magnificent-categories/food-and-gastronomy/
Rooms are contemporary and spacious with little touches of whimsy in the soft furnishings and artwork. Bathrooms are sleek, with aromatic Gilchrist and Soames toiletries to add a touch of luxury. The Dream Weave Sleep System is more than just a bed: with a gel infused memory foam mattress topper, 300-thread count Egyptian Cotton linens and more pillows than you can imagine.
Next could be considered a business hotel, but it’s those little things that make it an ideal base for leisure travellers. The pool deck is Palm Springs glamorous and now vying as THE spot for Friday drinks. A short stroll and you’re in the centre of the cultural precinct – GOMA, QPAC, The State Library, The Queensland Museum and more. If shopping’s your thing every age group and budget is catered for in the Queen St Mall – Myer, Forever 21, David Jones, Tiffany, Chanel and much more.
Next Hotel is ahead of the pack when it comes to user-friendly technology and the ‘We Trust You’ mini-bars. Other Australian hotels have a lot of catching up to do. But hotels are in the hospitality game and nothing replaces people. During our stay all the staff were courteous and polite and the wait staff at Lennons went the extra mile.
All hotels can’t be all things to all people. Lavish and memorable experiences are in the small details. Today as we increasingly mix business and leisure, we want our accommodations to tick all the boxes. Brisbane’s Next Hotel does all that and more. http://www.silverneedlehotels.com/next/brisbane
