Could Sydney be anymore vivid?

In 2014, Vivid Sydney promises to turn the amp up to 11 with even bigger and brighter light displays, exciting musical performances and festival of ideas.

Could Sydney Be Anymore Vivid? From May 23 to June 9, Sydney will be awash with colour and light from the Opera House to Carriageworks and Darling Harbour to Sydney University. ‘Lighting the Sails’ of the Opera House is one of the most anticipated events of the festival with spectacular 3-D-mapped projections onto perhaps our most iconic landmark. This year the much-lauded 59 Productions will take the Opera House through time from the birth of architecture through to the most brilliant human achievements.

That other landmark, the Harbour Bridge will once again light up the night sky and harbour from 6pm to midnight. This year vessels in the harbour will also be brilliantly lit and will change colour simultaneously as the boats and ferries enter designated harbour precincts.

Vivid Music is more than just an accompaniment to the sensational displays. It is where surrealism meets pop culture and musical renegades come face-to-face with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. This year, the 18 day festival will feature a series of eclectic one-offs, and world premieres from a who’s who of contemporary music luminaries including the Pixies, the Presets, Giorgio Moroder and the Pet Shop Boys.

The Vivid Ideas program will include 15 signature events and 12 keynote speeches from design gurus, digital media luminaries and technology’s brightest including Candy Chang, Ryan Holiday, Sara Critchfield, Skylar Tibbits and Joshy D.  Vivid Ideas events will be held at the MCA, Carriageworks, the Seymour Centre and the Powerhouse Museum.

Vivid Sydney Creative Director, Ignatius Jones, said, “Vivid Sydney continues to grow exponentially. Every year we are overwhelmed by the excitement that Vivid Sydney generates, and this year is really building on what’s come before. New precincts, new installations, new music, new ideas and new business all play a leading role in creating Vivid Sydney and really give our city and everyone involved in Vivid a huge chance to shine. The spotlight is firmly placed on Sydney as the Creative Industry hub of Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region.”

Vivid Sydney 2014 will be as Giorgio Moroder’s collaborators Daft Punk once sang: “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.
