Good Food Month dishes it up

Lovers of great food are enthusiastically enjoying the inaugural Brisbane Times Good Food Month all across Brisbane and beyond.

Australia is blessed with the world’s freshest produce and luckily many great chefs. Good Food Month celebrates both fine dining and our best cafes and bars. The month-long festival has already had a number of sell-out events.

Good Food Month is Australia’s biggest food festival event. It has been growing for years in Sydney and last year Melbourne jumped on the bandwagon. The Sydney event has grown to include Canberra and in 2014 Brisbane has joined in the fun.

HOBOHEMIA

One of the more fun events is Bohemian Rhapsody at Hobohemia Antiques. Winner of the 2013 Queensland Good Food Guide Award for best food under $30 Kettle and Tin combines forces with Hobohemia Antiques for a night of fabulous, fun night. On July 29 in a quirky antique setting 5 tastes of street food will be dished up with a beer or cocktail on arrival; It promises to be the most fun you can have sitting down.

Brisbane’s hatted chefs get a chance to indulge their inner food fantasies at Hats off Dinners. Gerard Bistro’s Ben Williamson and his crew will create an evening of Middle Eastern delights with live music on July 16. Damon Amos of Public will go Paleo for one night only also on July 16. A five course banquet of delightful Paleo provisions with a welcoming Tanqueray cocktail and matched red wines.

Paleo

Brisbane’s Hilton Hotel recently unveiled Simon Degroot’s large-scale reinterpretation of 12 sketches by the hotel’s architect the much-revered Harry Seidler. After Image is an exhibition featuring sketches of working samples from the original mural. After enjoying the exhibition you can enjoy an art lover’s dinner curated by Executive Chef Jeremy Clark.

Vintaged

During Good Food Month Brisbane’s best bars step up with signature Tanqueray cocktails and some of the best bar food north of the border. At the Valley’s Dutch Courage Officers’ Mess for just $20 you can sip a Bloomsbury Bouquet – Tanqueray, St Germain, yellow chartreuse, egg white and chamomile flowers paired with cayenne and black pepper calamari. Or at The End in West End, a Dirty Boulevard of Tanqueray, kaffir-ginger jelly, fresh ginger, spiced brown sugar is matched with a classic cheeseboard.

Night Noodle Markets will take over Southbank’s Cultural Forecourt from July 17 to July 27. Food will be courtesy of some of Brisbane’s best Asian eateries and the much-loved Sydney and Melbourne institution Longrain will also be serving up spicy Thai delights.
