That annual celebration of all things food and drink – the Brisbane Times Good Food Month is back. Like Eddie McGuire it is a little trimmer in 2017 but with many of the favourites and a few new events guaranteed to keep the River City very well fed.
Across July chefs, brewers, cider makers and some of Brissy’s preeminent restaurants will present lunches, collaborative dinners and of course, the perennial favourite, the Night Noodle Markets.
Born out of the Crave Sydney International Festival, the inaugural Good Food Month came to Brisbane in 2014. Announced by no less than Ferran Adria himself at the preview event at GOMA. It was a runaway success as food lovers clamoured for more.
170,000 lovers of Asian eats attended over the 11 nights of the first Night Noodle Markets.
Since then, the belts all need a little loosening come July. Some of Australia’s most acclaimed chefs have cooked side by side with some of Brisbane’s best at many sold-out and one off dining experiences.
Good Food Month Launch After Party
First up, the Good Food Month Launch After Party makes the launch open to the public for the first time at Stokehouse Q on July 17.
Hat Swap on July 27 sees Gerard’s Bistro’s Ben Williamson share his kitchen for one night only with Melbourne’s Embla chef Dave Verheul. 5-shared courses with matching wines will make this an evening to remember.
‘Laneway! Streetfood! Music!’
The location of one of the new events, ‘Laneway! Streetfood! Music!’ was top secret but has just now been revealed. And ‘quelle surprise’ its Brisbane’s foodiest laneway – Fish Lane. This is one for the beer lovers, presented by Beer the Beautiful Truth. The food? Considering the location it will be street food supplied by La Lune Wine & Co, Salt Meats Cheese (think Pumpkin risotto with vannella burrata topped with crisp prosciutto) and more.
Night Noodle Markets
The Night Noodle Markets stellar line-up will once again wow the crowds at Southbank’s Cultural Forecourt for 12 sizzling nights – July 19-30. Cashless payment makes tasting a little bit of everything easy. The superstar of cakes – Blackstar Pastry’s Strawberry Watermelon cake is back, along with Little Kyoto, Junk, Hoy Pinoy, Teppanyaki Noodles and much, much more.
Escape to Halcyon House
A little further afield, Escape to Halcyon House is an all-inclusive indulgent overnight escape to the multi-award winning, luxury bolthole at Cabarita Beach. From welcome drinks by the pool to an exclusive dinner by chef extraordinaire Ben Devlin, champagne breakfast and tailored cooking class it will be one helluva weekend. (August 25).
Good Food Month means it’s time to hit the gym and get fit for all the scrumptious delights, winning wine and fun. We’ll keep you up-to-date with all the happenings via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
