It may have been only two weeks since Executive Chef Andy Ashby launched his exciting new menu at Salon de Co but he isn’t resting on his laurels. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rock ‘n Roll High Tea is officially here.
Salon de Co Rock n Roll High Tea
In the French salon-like surrounds of Brisbane’s Ovolo Inchcolm, weekends are about to be decidedly different. From April 27, the Rock ‘n Roll High Tea will be a little more Mick and Keef than Camilla and Catherine. Chintz and lace-free with nary a china teacup in sight this high tea menu is bold and surprising.
The Laurenti champagne was flowing freely as we arrived. The cake stands with old 45’s for bases overflowed with some seriously delicious savoury and sweet treats. Delicate Queensland spanner crab and caviar mini crumpets are pure genius. But so is the Gruyere mousse with a crisp ‘Vegemite’ tartlet case.
Savoury or Sweet?
Quite seriously, the tomato marshmallow is a textural sensation – essence of tomato masquerading as a little melt in the mouth, fluffy white pillow. Make sure to keep room for the salt and vinegar churros and brisket buns.
No need for raised pinkies here – raise and clink your champagne glasses instead.
We then start on the Daintree chocolate ‘lamingtons’ with Davidson plum. Even the few non-chocoholics will rejoice at their not too sweet dark chocolate mousse centres. Negroni and Whiskey sour Pate de Fruit are very adult fruit jellies. Tiny terracotta pots of crisp mini-veggies can be dipped into smoky ‘soil’ and yoghurt.
On the first Saturday of each month, you can sip your champagne with some smooth tunes as the resident DJ spins the decks.
Kick back and revel in the champagne truffles – which provide the perfect finishing note.
Working with Ovolo Hotels’ creative culinary partner, Ian Curley, Chef Andy has taken the high tea concept and mixed it up.
“… Why not make high tea a bit rock n roll? We love making the familiar unfamiliar. Food should be playful, full of surprises and delights and be shared, going hand in hand with a good time. Brisbane, this isn’t a high tea like anything you’ve had before.” says Andy.
FYI
The Rock n Roll High Tea is available at the intimate Salon de Co every Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. There are three packages available:
Start Me Up at $65 per person with full high tea – with a glass of champagne on arrival plus tea & coffee.
Welcome To The Jungle at $75 per person with full high tea with a cocktail on arrival, plus tea & coffee.
The Final Countdown at $95 per person with full high tea and free-flowing champagne plus tea & coffee.
Bookings are essential, visit www.salondeco.com.au
If free-flowing champagne is your style – The Final Countdown makes total sense. (Designated driver not included).
In terms of taste and value, this has to be one of the very best High Tea offerings anywhere. You don’t even have to concern yourself with the usual boring High Tea question: Cream or jam first?
