P&O Cruises Floats Out New Partnership with Archie Rose Distilling Co.
P&O Cruises is adding an exciting new taste to cruising, announcing a special partnership with the award-winning Archie Rose Distilling Co. on its latest ship Pacific Explorer, which launches in June. Guests on the 77,000-tonne superliner will be able to enjoy a tantalising list of cocktails in its premium cocktail bar, The Bonded Store, with every drink featuring Archie Rose’s handcrafted spirits. In a first for an Australian-based ship, the popular craft distiller will also host special gin making and whisky master classes onboard Pacific Explorer cruises. P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell said the partnership with the Sydney-based Archie Rose was part of the ongoing evolution of P&O’s product, designed to capture the relaxed but stylish spirit of modern Australia.
“The small and hidden bar scene is incredibly popular on land so we’re taking the concept to sea with The Bonded Store which will feature a stylish and somewhat quirky décor in an intimate setting, as well as fantastic Archie Rose cocktails,” Mr Myrmell said.
“It’s another highlight for Pacific Explorer which really represents the next step in the evolution of P&O’s fleet. “From lawn bowls on the deck to a delicious Negroni in The Bonded Store, Pacific Explorer will have some wonderful new experiences to offer which we think will be a huge hit with our guests.” Mr Myrmell said the pairing with Archie Rose was P&O’s first cocktail bar partnership. “As Australia’s only home grown cruise line, we’re very proud to be stocking another premium Australian product on our ships. “We put a lot of thought into The Bonded Store concept and we felt that Archie Rose had just the right flavour for the new bar, with spirits which are sophisticated, on-trend and delicious. The result is a classy venue, which will take people back to another cocktail era but still have some fun design elements – as well as a cocktail list which captures some fabulous flavours,” Mr Myrmell said. Archie Rose Distilling Co. founder Will Edwards described the partnership with P&O as “a real privilege”. “We can’t wait to deliver a new craft spirits experience for P&O’s guests and to showcase the innovation and quality of local Australian spirits,” Mr Edwards said. The Archie Rose partnership is the latest development in a string of new offerings onboard Pacific Explorer. Other new features for the ship include a waterpark and two spectacular waterslides shooting over the side of the ship as well as a relaxed barefoot lawn bowls area. Guests will also be able to enjoy an array of dining options including the sultry Asian dining venue, Dragon Lady, and the classic Italian restaurant Angelo’s, which have both proved a hit on Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden. Presently sailing as Dawn Princess with sister line Princess Cruises, the Pacific Explorer will be refitted in May and June, sailing on her first cruise from Sydney on June 22. She will join P&O ships Pacific Dawn and Pacific Jewel as well as P&O’s latest additions, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden, which debuted in late 2015.

Princess Cruises Announces Island Princess the Fourth Ship to Debut Medallion Class Ocean Vacations
Princess Cruises has announced that Island Princess will be the fourth cruise ship in its fleet to feature the exciting new Ocean Medallion™, debuting on the ship in Alaska in May 2018. The wearable device enables a new level of personalisation and delivers an enhanced guest experience not previously available in the global travel industry. Princess Cruises is the first Carnival Corporation brand to debut this ground breaking innovation, which was unveiled by Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald last month. Island Princess joins three other cruise ships scheduled to debut Medallion Class Ocean Vacations: Regal Princess on November 13, 2017, followed by Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in early 2018.
Starting from May 16, 2018, the Medallion Class Alaska cruise will sail on the Voyage of the Glaciers seven-day itinerary between Vancouver and Anchorage (Whittier), with a trip to the state’s most extraordinary glacial waters including Glacier Bay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Princess Cruises Vice President Australia & New Zealand Stuart Allison said it was fitting that the fourth ship to feature Medallion Class Ocean Vacations would be Island Princess given the cruise line’s leading role in Alaska.
“Sailing on our popular Voyage of the Glaciers itinerary, our guests will enjoy the best Alaska has to offer and experience a new type of cruise holiday, connecting with each other and this extraordinary destination in a more memorable way,” Mr Allison said.
“Our international itineraries are already very popular with our Australian and New Zealand guests and the debut of the Ocean Medallion in destinations including Alaska will provide another great reason to enjoy a Princess fly-cruise holiday.” Medallion Class makes cruising more personal, immersive, simple and seamless than previously considered possible. At the heart of this personalised experience is the Ocean Medallion, which is powered by a first-of-its-kind interactive technology platform within the One Cruise Experience Access Network™ (O·C·E·A·N™). The Ocean Medallion has no discernible technology – no on-off switch, no charging, and no menu to navigate – and can be worn as a pendant, on a wristband, in a clip or simply placed in a pocket to reveal enhanced services and personalised experiences without guests having to push a button or take any action. Pre-cruise engagement will allow guests to provide preferences that detail their wants, needs and desires so that their onboard experience can be personalised in advance. Pairing with the Ocean Medallion is the Ocean Compass™, a digital concierge accessible by all guests using interactive displays throughout the ship, on stateroom TVs, via guests’ own smart devices, or through a crew member. For example, guests can find their way to venues around the ship, make reservations at the Lotus Spa, specialty dining restaurants and shore excursions, arrange celebrations, view photographs, learn about the destinations they will visit and activities at each port of call. The Ocean Compass will invite guests to experiences based on their individual needs, wants and desires. Some of the initial service innovations include:
- Ocean Ready™: Expedites embarkation as information is added to the guest profile in advance
- Stateroom Access: The Ocean Medallion will unlock a guest’s stateroom, replacing the key card
- HERE & NOW™: Guests can place food and beverage orders to be delivered to select locations
- THERE & THEN™: Guests can place select food and beverage orders and have it delivered to where they plan to be at a designated time
- Ocean Navigate: Accessed through the Ocean Compass, guests can learn the whereabouts of their family as they enjoy activities throughout the ship and navigate their way around the ship. Friends and family will also be able to easily communicate with each other through a messaging service.

Princess Cruises Takes Australian History to Sea
Princess Cruises has created history with a new on-board exhibition showcasing major moments from Australia’s past.
The exhibition, titled Defining Moments in Australian History has been developed in partnership with the National Museum of Australia and will feature onboard the cruise line’s record fleet of five Australian-based ships until 2021. Through public discussion, online resources and community events, the initial program at the Museum in Canberra identified 100 key defining moments in Australian history, including the opening of the Sydney Opera House, evidence of Indigenous Australians on this continent over 50,000 years ago and the formation of the children’s entertainment group The Wiggles. Using existing content and images, the Museum then designed and produced 20 panels that provide an introduction to Australia and its people, for display on Princess’ ships. These panels form part of the onboard exhibit, giving an overview of key events that define Australian history, along with several artifacts, exclusive to the Princess exhibition, which are on show for guests to view. These include convict leg irons, a Dead Man’s Penny (memorial plaque) and Aboriginal stone tools. Princess Cruises Vice President Australia & New Zealand Stuart Allison said the response from guests had been extremely positive.
“We’ve had a great reaction from our guests. On exhibition days the atrium is packed with people who are curious to see what moments have made the top 100, they love it,” Mr Allison said. National Museum Deputy Director – Collections and Content, Janda Gooding said the National Museum was delighted to partner with Princess Cruises to bring its Defining Moments in Australian History project to an even wider audience.
“The National Museum is committed to sharing high quality Australian-history storytelling with as many people as possible and travelling exhibitions like this one allow even more people to enjoy our programs,” Dr Gooding said.
“We’ve also been very pleased to be able to operate a special program on Emerald Princess throughout the summer season, with a National Museum curator onboard to present the Defining Moments project and engage with guests,” she said. The success of the program is the level of public involvement, so the Museum is inviting Princess guests to join the debate about the nation’s past during their cruise, and to suggest a defining moment of their own. A short video, featuring interviews on the streets of Sydney and Melbourne and with author Tom Keneally and historian Michelle Arrow, has also been produced for the exhibit and will be shown on Princess’ ships several times during each cruise that features the exhibition.

Celebrity Cruises Reveals Celebrity Edge - A ship Designed to Transform Expectations
Celebrity Cruises delivers a first look at the transformational Celebrity Edge, whose dramatically expanded staterooms, ship-climbing Magic Carpet platform and stunning suites set a new standard for ship design.
Designed completely in 3-D, and featuring the work of A-list global architects and designers, the 2,918-guest Celebrity Edge aims to make discerning global travellers redefine how they experience the world and how intimate a holiday can be.
“Celebrity Edge is one of the most exciting, innovative and transformational ships I have ever been involved with," said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “The new features and refined design will establish a new baseline for ships from here on out."
“Our guests don't want to just skim the world like a magazine – they want to feel a human connection with it," said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. "Every element of Celebrity Edge is meant to make that connection intense and unforgettable. Our new class of ship will allow guests to experience their journeys with the uniqueness and sophistication that marks the rest of their lives.”
A-List Global Designers Bring Their Best to Celebrity Guests
Celebrity made the most of its first new ship class in 10 years, bringing in a design and architectural dream team from around the globe to push the boundaries of ship design and to evolve luxury travel at sea, including internationally renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE of Kelly Hoppen Interiors and visionary architect Tom Wright of WKK. American designer Nate Berkus serves as Celebrity Edge's design ambassador. Together with other designers whose work will be revealed later, the team arrived at designs that are fresh, exciting, current and comfortable – the essence of Celebrity's Modern Luxury style.
Design Breakthrough Enables Larger Rooms to Reach the Water’s Edge
Revolutionary staterooms erase the boundaries between the traditional ship stateroom and its veranda, creating a closer connection to the ocean. The new Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda turns guest quarters into a seamless space, from the room's door all the way to the water’s edge. The simple touch of a button gives guests open-air access to the sea, bringing the outside in and the inside out. With the touch of another button, guests can take complete control of their stateroom and personalise everything from lighting, shades, temperature and service – even choosing a setting to tuck them in or gently wake them.
The design adds 23 percent more square metres and 10 percent larger bathrooms than Celebrity’s Solstice Class.
“The Retreat” Offers Spectacular New Experiences and Suite Categories
The ultimate sanctuary for world travellers will be the new private utopia called The Retreat, featuring a private pool on The Retreat Sundeck. Also part of this special space is The Retreat Lounge, which brings heightened levels of style and sophistication to Celebrity Edge and boasts around-the-clock personal butler service, and the exclusive Suite Class restaurant Luminae @ The Retreat.
With Celebrity Edge, Celebrity has more than doubled the number of available suites, adding two spectacular new categories. At the top of the line are two new Iconic Suites situated above the ship’s bridge. These near 792 sq. m., two-bedroom, two-bathroom suites feature mind-blowing views thanks to panoramic windows enveloping the dining room, living room and bedrooms. The 213 sq. m. veranda offers a 270-degree view of the ocean. Another new Suite Class comprises six split-level Edge Villas, which offer stunning views from two stories of windows, private plunge pools and direct walk-out access to The Retreat Sundeck. Hoppen also designed the two two-bedroom, two-bathroom Penthouse Suites with large soaking tubs on the veranda, large dual walk-through showers, and expansive walk-in closets, and the 146 large, outward-facing Sky Suites. All suites and double occupancy Edge Staterooms are fitted with exclusively designed plush king-size cashmere mattresses – an industry first – and offer personal butler services and access to The Retreat.
Transformational Destination Experience
An Unexpected Playscape that Engages All the Senses The Rooftop Garden is one of many spaces aboard Celebrity Edge that will lure guests out to relax and play. Imagined by celebrated architect Tom Wright, the Rooftop Garden, tended daily by a resident horticulturist, is the perfect place for guests to enjoy games and activities through the day. At night, it is home to live music and the outdoor movie-and-meal pairing of "A Taste of Film.”
The World’s First Magic Carpet: Where It Is, Where It's At
Cantilevered from the side of the ship, the Magic Carpet makes Celebrity Edge’s distinctive profile recognisable from miles away. The size of a tennis court, this incredible engineering feat scales the 16-deck ship through the day and evening, positioning at four of the ship’s decks, transforming into a new and exciting experience at each one.
At the summit of the ship on Deck 16, the Magic Carpet becomes the ultimate specialty restaurant offering a special “Dinner on the Edge” for 90 guests. Alongside Deck 14, Magic Carpet becomes an open-air expansion of the main pool area. On Deck 5, Magic Carpet extends one of the ship’s specialty restaurants into the most amazing al fresco seating imaginable, and at its lowest position on Deck 2, Magic Carpet is a key component to the Destination Gateway, a luxury embarkation station where guests will be whisked away aboard sleek Edge Launches.SM

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity onboard the 890-guest Azamara Journey begins on 7 March 2018 with a late night departure from Sydney’s famous harbour, and concludes in London on 17 June 2018. The voyage will call in 29 countries along the way, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Greece, Italy, France, Spain, The Netherlands and more.
102 days, 60 ports, 29 countries, 18 late nights, 14 overnights and eight AzAmazing Evenings - all without repeating a port.
The Azamara Wold Journey truly is a trip of a lifetime, filled with limitless authentic cultural opportunities from one side of the world to the other. And we couldn’t be more thrilled it’s kicking off right here in Australia,” said Adam Armstrong, managing director, Azamara Club Cruises Australia and New Zealand.
With smaller ships that are able to go to places other cruise ships can’t, Azamara differentiates itself - and gains loyal fans - by making destinations the star of the show. Its signature programs encourage guests to take in the sights, sounds and flavours of local cultures in every port. Wherever adventure presents itself, Azamara’s unique Land Discoveries programs, including Insider Access, Nights and Cool Places and Cruise Global Eat Local, set the brand apart by inspiring guests to think outside the ship by offering special access to museums, iconic and exclusive attractions, hidden gems, tours, intimate meals and more. Azamara’s signature AzAmazing Evening events bring guests a unique cultural experience complimentary on all voyages seven nights or longer.
The remarkable cruise lets travellers explore half the world from the comfort of a newly revitalised cruise ship, following a multi-million dollar revitalisation earlier this year that left no public space untouched, and all staterooms completely re-worked with a fresh and modern colour palette and brand new furnishings.
